City guides Lexington, KY Recording studios
Lexington ยท studiosRecording studios in Lexington.
Lexington's studios split three ways: music rooms that track bands, post-production houses built for voice and picture, and home rigs that cost less and are booked by word of mouth. Picking the right one is mostly about knowing which of the three your project needs.
The rooms.
-
Tower Station
A music-first room built around a Neve console, run by engineer Jeff Meyers. Folk, bluegrass and acoustic artists have made multiple albums here. It's a good fit if you're tracking real instruments and want an engineer who listens like a player.
-
Long Island Recording Studios (LIRCo)
A 48-channel Audient console with Pro Tools HD and a lit video stage for multi-camera live sessions. It's also home to the Lexington School for Recording Arts. It's a good fit if you want audio and video of a live performance in one booking, or want to track drums in a big room and finish vocals at home.
-
Valwood Recording Studios
A Lexington music studio. Check its site for current services and booking.
-
Oakwood Recording Studios
A 72-channel console in a residential studio just south of town in Nicholasville. It does recording, mixing, mastering and voiceover. It's a good fit if you want a full-album, start-to-finish relationship with one engineer.
-
Dynamix Productions
An audio post facility at 333 N Ashland Ave in the Warehouse Block, open since 2003. It's Audible-approved for audiobooks and also does voiceover, ADR, podcasts, restoration and mastering. It's the right call when the project is voice, picture or archival rather than a band.
-
Home and project studios
Much of the town's hip-hop, R&B and singer-songwriter work is tracked in home rooms that don't show up on a map. On KollabMe they're the producers and engineers in the Match deck, and they're often the cheapest route to a finished demo.
What to ask before you book.
Rates change, so we don't list them. Ask every room the same five questions:
- Is the engineer included in the hourly rate, or billed separately?
- Is there a minimum block, and what does a day rate cost compared with the hourly?
- What happens to setup time and overtime?
- Do I leave with the raw multitracks (WAV stems), and in what format?
- What's the cancellation and deposit policy?
Our studio booking questions template has the full list, and how much studio time costs explains the pricing models.

Studios don't swipe. They list in Spaces with their hours, rates and whether they take walk-ins, and then receive requests. A creative sends a date and a session length; the studio accepts or declines. The rate is visible before anyone asks.

Lexington recording studio FAQ
What's the best recording studio in Lexington, KY?
It depends on the job. For tracking a band on a console, look at the music rooms (Tower Station, LIRCo, Valwood, Oakwood). For audiobooks, voiceover or audio for video, look at Dynamix. For a cheap demo, a home producer may be the better fit.
How much is studio time in Lexington?
Rooms set their own rates and change them, so ask directly, and confirm whether the engineer is included. Studios on KollabMe Spaces post their rate up front.
Can I record a live session with video in Lexington?
Yes. LIRCo has a lit stage and multi-camera video production alongside Pro Tools HD multitrack recording.
Is there a recording studio near me in Lexington that takes walk-ins?
Check KollabMe Spaces, where studios show whether walk-ins are on. Otherwise, call ahead. Most rooms here book by appointment.
